Trecutul Perfect - The Past Perfect Tense

Forma: Subiect + had + past participle->I had worked/driven

Il utilizam:

1. pentru a exprima o actiune care are loc inaintea  altei actiuni din trecut sau inaintea unui moment din trecut

She had already left when I got home.

Ea deja please cand eu am ajuns acasa.

The man spoke as if he had seen a ghost.

(Omul a vorbit ca si cum vazuse o fantoma.)

2. in constructiile care folosesc Conditionalul in trecut(Improbabil)

Tom would have helped me with my lessons if he had known how to do it.   

(situatie ipotetica in trecut)

(Tom m-ar fi ajutat cu lectiile daca ar fi stiut cum sa faca..)

3. pot exprima o dorinta nerealizata

I wish I had been there.

(Imi doresc sa fi fost acolo.)

I wished I hadn’t been there.

(Mi-as fi dorit sa nu fi fost acolo.)

4. exprima o actiune anterioara unei actiuni a carui timp e "Future-in-the-Past"

Tom said that he would go to the stadium after he had finished homework.

(Tom a spus ca va merge in Anglia, dupa ce va invata putina engleza.)
